Congrats on some nice sales. It would be interesting to know how these sales came about i.e. email marketing to end users, Godaddy Premium Listings, direct contact from end users, SEDO/Moniker auction, etc

About 1/3 of those were from sedo.com. A few sales were through HuntingMoon.com, which is brokering my adult domains. The rest were all direct contact from end users. I don’t do any marketing to end users, they just look me up.

The Sedo sales were much higher than usual because after many years of having my domains listed with them as “make offer” I changed them to have a fixed asking price. This increased sales, but on the other hand I may have lost out on getting higher prices for those domains by selling them too cheap. Usually Sedo domains account for only 10% of my sales.

I look at comparable sales an dnjournal.com, and also the values from estibot.com and appraise.epik.com .Plus, after 15 years of being in the domain name business, I just have an idea in my head of what each domain is worth although I am sure I am way off sometimes.

Thanks for sharing, some nice sales.

That is interesting point that once you went to fixed price you sold more domains. I am constantly debating on some domains if I should go fixed or make offer.

Are you gonna continue to use fixed prices?

I recently took the fixed prices down, only because it was a pain in the neck for me to worry about deleting domains from sedo.com and afternic.com everytime I made a sale on my own. And, I worried my fixed prices were too low in some cases.

Do you park the domains, for sale pages?

Congrats on the sales. I like HealthStore.com and the price shows it. Glad to hear the fixed prices seem to help convert, as Sedo has been stating that.

Yes, after getting tired of lowball offers at SEDO, I put fixed pricing on them and yes SEDO sales in 2010 were much stronger than 2009. Also worth noting when I did take a few offers to auction at SEDO previously not once did I ever get a higher offer.

You are the only honest person I’ve encountered thus far. You hold nothing back, and still you are doing wonderfully. I wanted to know if you’ve ever submitted names to Sedo’s Top Domain auction, or their monthly auction, and what percentages get accepted, if possible what is your thoughts on the selection process? Thanks.

Thanks for all the information you have provided. What was your tactic in getting $5K for Webflings.com when the appraisal was lower? Or in general.

    Thanks again for sharing.

Those automated appraisals are good for valuing domains based on their search engine potential, but they don’t always do well giving a value to the “catchiness” of a domain. WebFlings.com is a great, memorable name for an online dating site, and there is big money in online dating, so $5000 is not a lot for a company to spend in that industry.
